Congratulations to this year's Thomas E. Steiner: Trojan Excellence Award winners: Jack Admundson, Leo Hanlon, Kennedy Hardrick, Katrina Koenigs, Joseph Rueth, Mackenzie Sanders, Jessica Thompson, and Aiden Wilbur!
The Thomas E. Steiner: Trojan Excellence Awards (formerly Green & White Awards) recognizes exceptional students for their consistency towards leadership, community engagement and overall excellence throughout the school year. These awards are exclusive to students who have been nominated for the Trojan of the Month award during the current academic year. Faculty and staff chose two students from each grade level and selected them for the Trojan Excellence Award.
"The students chosen for this award truly are remarkable humans and we are proud to have them at West," Wauwatosa West High School Associate Principal Kaci Smith said.
The Thomas E. Steiner: Trojan Excellence Award was established to honor the legacy of Thomas E. Steiner, who served as principal at Wauwatosa West High School from 2000 to 2005. During his tenure, Principal Steiner made a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of students and the greater community, fostering a positive and inclusive school environment. The award was created to elevate the prestige in recognizing students who demonstrate an appreciation for their school, show a commitment to their school community, and set a positive example for their peers. It was first introduced by Principal Steiner as the Green & White Awards in 2004, and renamed the Thomas E. Steiner: Trojan Excellence Awards in his honor. Tragically, Steiner passed away in November 2005 from complications related to the West Nile virus. In tribute to his legacy, his family generously donated funds to establish the "Steiner Center," a dedicated space in the school library. The award continues to celebrate the values that Principal Steiner championed during his time at Wauwatosa West.
