The board was provided updates on or discussed the following:

Equal Access to Rigor – Last year, a curriculum review of our district’s English Language Arts (ELA) programs (K-12) was conducted by CESA #1, a Cooperative Educational Service Agency that serves as a link between school districts and the state.  As part of this review, one of the recommendations is “to support an equitable, rigorous, and collaborative ELA curriculum for all students through strategic phasing out of ELA tracking.”

This recommendation is consistent with our district’s Equity Plan which requires us to “research and eliminate the barriers that exist in specific curricular areas that prevent access and opportunities for all students.” The Wauwatosa School District Department of Teaching and Learning and our middle school teachers and principals are proposing that in seventh and eighth grades, all students take the advanced ELA curriculum, creating equal access to rigor. The presentation to the Board followed an in-person presentation to parents to explain the proposal and gather feedback. An online ThoughtExchange was also provided for all District parents to provide feedback. View the presentation slides here. *Video of the board presentation begins around 19:24 in the link below.

2020-2023 Proposed Capital Projects Plan Update - Melissa Nettesheim, Manager of Buildings & Grounds presented an update on 2020-23 Proposed Capital Projects Plan.

Legislative Advocacy Committee Update --  Leigh Anne Fraley and Shawn Rolland provided an update from the Legislative Advocacy Committee.

Following the regular meeting, the board adjourned into an Executive (closed) Session to Consider a Complaint under Policy 9130, Issue Resolution, and Confer with Legal Counsel Pursuant to Section 19.85(1)(g) of the Wisconsin Statutes.
