On August 8, 2022, the Wauwatosa School District renamed its recently-approved safety resolution to honor Mr. Dale Breitlow, a former Wauwatosa West High School Associate Principal who was murdered by a former student on December 1, 1993. The resolution will now be referred to as the Dale Breitlow Safety Resolution Preventing School Violence and Increasing Social, Emotional and Mental Health Support.
The resolution, which can be found in its original form in BoardDocs, aims to increase collaboration between the School Board, Superintendent and PTA Council members in an effort to increase the emphasis on safety in our school buildings.
“Mr. Breitlow’s tragic passing in 1993 will not be forgotten in this community,” stated Dr. Demond Means, Superintendent of the Wauwatosa School District. “Even today, 29 years later, we continue to monitor, assess and enhance our safety procedures to maximize safety for our staff and students, and we continue to keep Mr. Breitlow and his family in our thoughts.”
Mr. Breitlow’s death prompted improved safety measures in Wauwatosa schools, including locking and alarming doors and installing security cameras. For more information about school safety in the Wauwatosa School District, visit www.wauwatosaschools.org.
