Wauwatosa School District Hires Wauwatosa West High School Athletic Director

On Monday, August 9, 2022, the Wauwatosa School District Board of Education approved Superintendent Dr. Demond Means’ recommendation to appoint Mr. John Damato as Athletic Director at Wauwatosa West High School.  

“Mr. Damato has an exceptional reputation in the region as a leader, educator and  coach,” stated Mr. Corey Golla, Wauwatosa West Principal. “He will be an excellent athletic director and I’m confident he will have an immediate impact on Wauwatosa West. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber join our team, and I look forward to Mr. Damato building a team of outstanding student-athletes.” 

Mr. Damato brings more than 23 years of experience to this position, having previously served in various health, fitness and athletic-related roles in Menomonee Falls and Sussex. In Sussex, Mr. Damato served as the strength and conditioning coordinator for 18 years, head football coach for 16 years, and varsity girls track assistant for two years. He has been consistently recognized for his exceptional leadership and communication, and strives to positively impact students while helping them reach their highest potential. Mr. Damato was recognized as a successful football coach in the Greater Metro Conference, and has recently coached girls track. Mr. Damato received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, and a Master of Science in Education from Marian University in Fond du Lac. In 2014, he was inducted into the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater Athletic Hall of Fame. “I am extremely excited for the opportunity to lead the Wauwatosa West Athletic Department,,” stated Damato. “My goal is to work collaboratively with our coaches to ensure a positive experience for all of our student-athletes”.
