Board Meeting Preview - Jan. 23, 2023
The Wauwatosa School Board will meet for its second meeting of the month on Monday, January 23, 2023. The meeting will be held at the Fisher Administration Building (12121 West North Ave.) in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. A link to the meeting livestream can be found here.
Chief of Talent, Ms. Sarah Zelazoski, will present to the Board the monthly Human Resources Report. No action will be taken on this agenda item.
Superintendent Dr. Demond Means will then deliver a Superintendent Update that includes the following items:
- Community feedback on 2023-24 school year calendar
- Junior/Senior kindergarten enrollment events
- Lights On Tosa events
- PTA finance presentation
- Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Initiative Scholarship (Wauwatosa West)
- We the People results (Wauwatosa East and West)
Following the Superintendent Update, the Board will be asked to take action on Non-Resident Seat Availability for the 2023-24 School Year. Following input from the McKinley and Wilson Elementary communities, District Administrators have updated the recommendation to include adding a section of second grade at McKinley Elementary School and keeping fifth grade in one section at Wilson Elementary School. Due to these modifications, the District will recommend a total of 73 Open Enrollment seats, which is a decrease of one Open Enrollment seat from the original proposal presented at the January 9, 2023 meeting. Members of the community will have an opportunity to comment publicly on this item.
Members of the Policy Committee will deliver a second reading of Board policies for vote, and will conduct a first reading of additional policies.
Members of the Legislative Advocacy Committee will request the Board take action on the Committee’s Recommendations for 2023-25 Legislative Priorities.
Members of the Financial and Resource Committee will deliver a report to the community, and finally, the Board will take action on the Rescheduling of the February 27 Board Meeting to an Alternative Date.
Opportunity for public comment on non-agenda items will be provided immediately following the Call to Order and immediately preceding the Board’s adjournment.
The Board will not be asked to take action on the School Resource Officer Memorandum of Understanding on Monday, January 23, 2023. It is anticipated that District Administration will bring the Memorandum of Understanding, signed by the Wauwatosa Police Department, to the Board for action on February 13, 2023.
