East High School Pool Renovations

  • Design Review Board Approves Exterior Design Plans for East High School Pool Renovation

Posted by Wauwatosa Schools on 11/21/2019

The City of Wauwatosa approved the exterior design plans for the East High School pool renovation during its meeting on Thursday, November 21.

The pool will close on December 1st so that equipment can be removed and the site prepped for demolition and new construction. For a refresher on the scope of the project, click here.

Construction is expected to start in Mid December with an estimated completion date of November 2020.  The District does not anticipate starting locker rooms until the end of the school year or summer of 2020. We are not certain the full extent of the locker room remodels however, we should have more details on this soon.

Wauwatosa Recreation Department’s programming of the pool will likely return in early 2021.

  • Morgridge Family to Donate an Additional $1.7 Million Toward East High School Pool Project

The Wauwatosa School Board voted unanimously to approve an additional donation of $1.7 Million from John And Tashia Morgridge for the East High School aquatic space renovation during its meeting on Monday, September 9, 2019.

Along with the donation, the school board approved a matching expenditure of the same amount from the Wauwatosa School District’s operating budget to complete the work. The increased budget for the project is the result of structural challenges that were identified with the aquatic space during the preliminary design process.

  • Community Asked to Provide Input For East High School Pool Renovation

Posted by Keller Russell on 7/2/2019

Dear Wauwatosa School District Families and Community Members -

In May, the Wauwatosa School District shared the exciting news regarding a $4.7 million donation from John and Tashia Morgridge that will fund a renovation of the aquatic space at Wauwatosa East High School, as well as an outdoor learning space at the new Lincoln Elementary School.

We are beginning the design process for the renovation of the East High School aquatic space and would like to gather broader community input from any potential users of the pool.

We have also gathered input from the school’s physical education teachers, our high school swim coaches, and Wauwatosa Recreation Department staff and coaches.

Key outcomes of the renovation will include:

    • Fully accessible facilities (ADA compliance)
    • Safety improvements and upgrades to meet today’s standards
    • Improved community access
    • Multipurpose space  to serve physical education classes, competitive athletic needs, and community programming
    • Improved energy and operational efficiency

With these parameters in mind, we’d like to know: What features or amenities have you appreciated in other pool facilities you have visited? Please provide your feedback via this form. (*Note, this form is now closed)

Additionally, we will host a community meeting on Tuesday, August 20th at 7:30 p.m. at East High School to gather feedback on a preliminary design.

We are thankful to the Morgridges for their generosity and the opportunity to come together as a community to share ideas for this wonderful resource for our students, athletes, and community programming.

Thank you for taking the time to provide input.

    Sincerely,

    Wauwatosa School District

  • WSD Alumni Donate $4.7 Million for Renovation of East High School Aquatic Space and Outdoor Learning Space at Lincoln Elementary

Wauwatosa East High School will receive a new, state-of-the-art aquatic space thanks to a generous donation by John and Tashia Morgridge, both 1951 alumni of the Wauwatosa School District.

The donation will fund a complete renovation of the existing pool space inside Wauwatosa East High School.

While the design of the project has not yet begun, the project will improve the condition of the pool itself and will also include the renovation of the surrounding aquatic space; modernizing the interior and updating locker rooms to provide universal access and meet the needs of all students, staff, and recreational participants the pool currently serves.

“We are so incredibly grateful for the generosity of John and Tashia Morgridge. Their investment in this community is a tremendous gift that will serve the students and residents of Wauwatosa for decades to come,” said Superintendent Phil Ertl.

John and Tashia are Wauwatosa natives and graduates of Wauwatosa High School (Class of 1951). Mr. Morgridge, Chairman Emeritus of Cisco Systems, is making the donation in honor of the 1951 State, Suburban, and Cardinal Relays champion swim team, of which John is a proud member.

“Growing up in the 40’s and 50’s, Wauwatosa provided an ideal childhood environment. Schools and pools were a key part of its basic fabric. For us the benefits of that experience have lasted a lifetime. This donation is made to help ensure that same environment for TOSA kids in the future,” said Tashia and John Morgridge.

In addition to the renovation of East High School’s aquatic space, the Morgridge’s donation, totaling $4.7 million, will also fund an outdoor learning space for the new Lincoln Elementary School. Mr. Morgridge and two family members are also alumni of Lincoln School.

Additional details will be shared once the design process begins.
