Driver Education

Classroom Theory

  • Students must be at least 15 years old to begin Classroom Theory.
  • Fee ($350) must be paid in full when application form is submitted.  There are NO REFUNDS.
  • Course consists of 30 hours.  Perfect attendance is required.
  • All registration for Classroom Theory is done on a first-come, first-served basis.

Behind-the-Wheel

  • Scheduling of Behind-the-Wheel is done by the Drive Education Coordinator (generally scheduled by birth date, with the oldest students driving first).
  • Class meets Monday through Friday, but specific dates will be determined by the instructor.
  • Students must be 15 years and 6 months old to begin Behind-the-Wheel.
  • Course consists of 12 hours - 6 hours of observation and 6 hours of driving.
  • Perfect attendance is required.

Fee

  • $350 must be paid at the time of registration.
  • Fee includes Classroom Theory and Behind-the-Wheel.
  • Students must be of high school age.
  • Students from other communities are welcome to participate in this Driver Education program.

The Wauwatosa School District's Recreation Department offers a QUALITY Driver Education Program:

  • DPI 450 Licensed Instructors.  All of our instructors are DPI (Department of Public Instruction) certified teachers specializing in driver training, who are updated annually in traffic safety laws and techniques.
  • Convenient Locations.  Classroom Theory is offered at East High School and West High School.  Behind-the-Wheel cars leave from both locations.
  • Convenient Class Times.  Evening Classroom schedules (fall, winter, spring) accommodate students who participate in after-school activities and sports.  Summer Classroom schedules acommodate students with busy school-year schedules, and allow students to complete Classroom Theory in only three weeks.  Flexible Behind-the-Wheel schedules include after-school or daytime study hall hours during the school year, and daytime schedules during summer months.
