Dr. Ertl is superintendent of schools for the Wauwatosa School District.  Dr. Ertl came to the Wauwatosa School District in July 2005.  He became superintendent in July 2005 after serving as district administrator for the Kiel Area School District. 

Dr. Ertl holds an undergraduate degree in physical education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (1988), a master's degree in education administration from Winona State University in Minnesota (1993) and a doctorate of education in educational leadership from the Teachers College at Columbia University in New York (1999).

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Dr. Ertl served as a teacher in the Marble Falls Independent School District in Marble Falls, Texas.  He returned to Wisconsin in 1989 to become a teacher in the School District of Tomah. After four years in the School District of Tomah, Dr. Ertl became assistant high school principal in the Menasha Joint School District.  While with the Menasha Joint School District, he also served as a middle school principal.  In January 2000, Dr. Ertl was named district administrator for the Kiel Area School District.  He served in that role until 2005 when he was appointed superintendent of schools for the Wauwatosa School District.

Dr. Ertl is actively involved in the community.  He gives of his time to the Wauwatosa Rotary Club and is a regular participant and supporter of the Education Foundation of Wauwatosa.  He, his wife and their sons make their home in Wauwatosa.
