Lisa Nass Memorial Fund:

Dear parents and guardians,
I am sending this email to keep everyone informed about where we are in the process of  creating a memorial for Lisa Nass.  Over the last several weeks, staff and students have endured a tremendous amount of emotional stress.  Trying to move forward after the loss of a student and a teacher in such a short amount of time is nearly impossible.  Our crisis team, students, colleagues, and community members have demonstrated how to pull together and support one another in time of need.  We have all done our best to find a sense of normalcy once again, but without question, strong feelings of sadness remain in the air.

Thanks to several key staff members and collaborative efforts, we have made the decision to purchase a round picnic table with a special engraved plaque in the center as well as a flowering tree to serve as the memorial for Ms. Nass.

Our goal is to have the table, plaque and tree ready for our May 30th end of the year recognition.  Therefore, we are asking for monetary donations of any denomination to help fund the cost of this memorial.  The picnic table will remain in our school courtyard and be available for viewing over the summer.  In addition, photos of the memorial will be posted to the website after May 30th.

We are seeking financial support from our Longfellow staff and the families of the Longfellow community to reach our goal.  Checks can be made out to Longfellow Middle School and given to any assistant in the main office.

To remember the loss of our 6th grader, Joey Kramer, a bench is already on the way and will be placed out near the recess area.

Sincerely,
Jason Galien – Principal

Traffic/parking changes:

Dear Longfellow parents:

We continue to have problems with double parking along North Ave during morning drop off  (7:45AM- 8:05AM) and afternoon pick up (3:15PM-3:35PM).  Recently, I have placed orange cones in this "double parking" lane to discourage parents from parking here, but the problem continues.  Stopping in the roadway LEFT of the cones to drop off or pick up your child is UNSAFE and UNACCEPTABLE!  The only safe and legal place to park is in the "PARKING LANE".

If North Ave is the most convenient place to drop off/pick up your child, please consider driving just a little farther west until you can find an open parking space.  Also please explore other options such as picking up / dropping off your child in the back of school, City Hall parking lot or east of Wauwatosa Ave.
For the safety of our children and residents driving W/B on North Ave, I will be enforcing the following effective immediately:

346.52  Stopping prohibited in certain specified places.
(1) No person may stop or leave standing any vehicle, whether attended or unattended and whether temporarily or otherwise, in any of the following places:
 (f) On the roadway side of any parked vehicle unless double parking is clearly indicated by official traffic signs or markers.

Violators of 346.52(1)(f) will be issued a traffic citation in the amount of $88.80.

Thanks for your effort and cooperation in keeping our students safe.

German students:

For the last 12 years, Mrs. Cook and the 8th grade German students of Longfellow have travelled each spring to Concordia Language Villages in Northern Minnesota.  They spend the weekend speaking nothing but German, eating German food, and learning about the culture of the German-speaking countries. The trip takes months to plan and the students must travel more than 10 hours to get to camp.  This year, Daniel R. and Jackson C. were given special recognition for the amount spoken and quality of their German. We are very proud of them and of all our 8th grade German students who, once again, represented Longfellow well. Congratulations on a great weekend! From Mrs. Cook

Officer Tracy Burbach
