The Writing Center - in the Library from 8:00 - 3:30

What is it?

The writing center is essentially a space comprised of a tutor who provides support to students and staff in a one-on-one setting throughout the school day. The environment is warm, friendly, and inviting, and all of our tutors receive training to provide this kind of service.

The following tasks are part of a lab?s duty during visits:
* Discuss assignments and prompts. Help the student figure out what, exactly, the teacher is asking them to do.
* Help students get started.
* Ask questions to help students expand and develop their ideas.
* Diagnose major weaknesses and prescribe strategies to overcome them.
* Help students develop self-editing, proofreading, and research skills.

In a sense, if it has to do with writing, the writing center should be able to help you out.

Our Mission

The Wauwatosa East Writing Center?s mission is to enhance a cross curricular approach to writing as a process and writing to learn and to communicate. The Writing Center helps writers identify, understand, and refine their personal writing process. The Writing Center staff offers questions instead of corrections, support instead of criticism, and understanding instead of evaluation.

Our Philosophy

 The Wauwatosa East Writing Center has a simple purpose: to help students write. We do not edit or proofread for students, but we will help them do so. We do not write on their papers; instead, we advise, encourage, and motivate them to make their own corrections, providing explanations and assistance as the session progresses. We believe that their writing is theirs, and they leave the session knowing that they own their work.
