Discussion Rubric

Discussions may be assessed daily, quarterly or by semester, at the teacher's discretion.

You have come to class prepared. You have questions, comments, and insight to offer. You participate without dominating. You listen to others to be sure that you are not making the same point. Your contributions move the conversation forward rather than stopping or stifling it. You are accurate and provide page numbers and passages or specific references to other materials to support your points and address your questions.

3
You do most of the above, but perhaps you are not listening effectively or you defend a point too vehemently without considering another point of view or giving your classmate the respect deserved. Contributions are insightful, but few and far between.

2
Your effort to contribute seems forced, though you are an eager listener. You may forget to base your responses on evidence from the text (or texts). OR You dominate the discussion (speaking most often is not the same as speaking most effectively).

Somewhat engaged. Often conversing with neighbors when someone is speaking. Interrupting. Not paying attention. Not prepared.
