Important Notice:  WKCE Test Results Have New Cut Scores

This past October and November all third through eighth, and tenth grade students took the state WKCE assessments.  The results of these tests have arrived and will be sent to parents in the very near future.  Upon receiving these results, parents may notice  that their child's proficiency level is lower than in previous years in the areas of reading and math, even though the score may have increased. This change in level does not necessarily reflect a change in the student's ability, rather the state has increased the cut score needed to be labeled proficient.

For example, a score of 466 for a third grade student in Reading was previously considered Advanced. However, using the new college and career ready benchmarks, a score of 466 for a third grade student in Reading is considered basic.  This increase in cut scores for proficiency are one of several state initiatives designed to increase expectations and rigor so that our students are college and career ready.

Along with the WKCE scores you will also receive additional information about the new scoring method. If parents have questions about their child's results, they should contact their child's teacher, counselor  or principal.

Information and Events

The Wauwatosa East and West High School AFS chapters are currently seeking host families for international exchange students. Families typically host for the school year. AFS students come from all over the world to engage in a cultural exchange with the hope of building a more peaceful world through understanding. All AFS students go through an application process and must demonstrate strong academic and English language skills.  All host families also go through an application and interview process so that we can best match a student to your family.  A team of liaisons support each student and host family to make sure this is the best possible experience for both parties.  We encourage you to consider taking this small step in building world friendship and understanding, as well as wonderful memories for your family.  For more information, please contact:  Maripat Monahan at 414-257-9367 or email, and visit the national AFS website at www.afs.org.

There will be an AFS Information Night at the Wauwatosa Public Library in the Firefly Room at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 28. Information will be shared about hosting an exchange student or studying abroad for a summer, semester, school or gap year.

Please RSVP by clicking HERE.
