By state statute, students who are residents of the school district at the beginning of the school year (September 1), are members for at least 20 days and then move from the district have the right to remain in the school district for the remainder of the school year. Beginning in the fall of 2000, parents who move from the school district during the spring of the previous school year and miss the deadline for application to the open enrollment program are able to apply for their children to remain in the school district for an additional school year. They would then be eligible to apply for continuing student status through the open enrollment program for the following school year. Currently there are 88 students attending school in Wauwatosa through the same or additional year tuition waiver option.
