Human Resources FAQ-Applying for a position

How do I apply online?
To start or return to an online application for a position in the Wauwatosa School District, go to the Employment web page and click the Online Application link.

Where can I download a copy of the application?
Instead of using a downloaded form, we encourage you to use our online application to apply for all positions. Alternatively you may stop in our office to complete the online application in person.

Creating an account
In order to use the online application process, you will need to create an account for yourself. Remember your user name and password so your can return to the site later.

I get an error when I try to connect to the online application.
The server where the online application is hosted may experience occasional slow times. If you cannot connect, please wait 10 minutes and try again. If you continue to get an error, contact the HR department. (414) 773-1040

Which online application should I use?
If you are applying for a teaching or administrative position, you should fill out the certified application. For all other positions, fill out the non-certified application. You will be asked to select one or more positions you are applying for when you login to the online application system.

What if I stop the online application and want to come back to it later?
If you are unable to complete the application, you will need to remember the username and password that you just created. Your user account will enable you to log back into your application to finish any incomplete sections or to update any of the information that may have changed.

I want to apply for multiple positions, what do I do?
Complete the online application form. You may select more than one position on the Employment Preferences section of the online application.

I'm applying for a teaching position, but I'm also able to take an aide position if a teaching position isn't available, what do I do?
You may select more than one position on the Employment Preferences section of the online application.

How do I check the status of my application after I submit it?
Return to the online application and login to the system. You may also contact the HR department for status information regarding your online application.

What happens after I apply?
Your application will be screened by those persons responsible for hiring the position.  Any candidates whose skills and qualifications are sought for in the position may be contacted for a phone interview, in person interview, or other type of conversation or examination.

What do I do with additional documents such as letters of reference, credentials, transcripts, etc.?
You may attach and upload them to your online application. If you experience difficulty with attachments, you may send additional documents to us via postal mail, fax or email.

Adding An Attachment
To add an attachment, click on Application located on the left menu. Then click on the Attachments link on the upper menu. From this screen, click add. This will take you to a form that will let you add an attachment. Choose the attachment type, click the browse button and locate the file on your computer, enter in the body of the attachment, and finally click on Save and Next to add the attachment.

Who gets interviewed?
Personal interviews are scheduled with those candidates who have been initially selected in the screening process.

What about new graduates?
Applications of those teacher candidates who will not graduate until the end of this semester will therefore not have a copy of their certification. However, your application will be screened if a letter is included from your college or university stating that after the successful completion of this current semester you will be certifiable.

Can I still apply via U.S. Mail or in person?
We encourage you to use our online application here (Employment) to apply for all positions. Alternatively you may stop in our office to complete the application in person. We are not accepting paper applications via postal mail (other than attachments to accepted applications such as transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc.).

How long will my application be kept?
Your application will be kept in the active file for one year after the original filing date and may be screened for future openings when they become available. After the twelve months, all online applications may be deleted. If you are indeed interested in a position in the Wauwatosa School District and have not been contacted by us in a six-month period, please call to update your application or it will be necessary for you to re-apply.
